So my xbox 360 got the RROD a couple of months ago. This would have really pissed me off if my cousin/roommate didn't have one as well so I just used his. Well his is starting to die(freezing/saw the RROD for a while before it decided that it was in fact working) so I'm kinda only using it to watch videos. I didn't really think mine still qualified for the free repair. Well turns out I'm still qualified until the 29th so I'm just now sent a request off. So that's the hurray part. The dismay is the fact that Mass Effect 2 comes out the 26th so my xbox won't be fixed in time. :/
So as I said previously I'm reading Memories of Ice, the third book in the Malazan series, by Steven Erikson. About a third of the way through it and I gotta say I'm really digging this series. I'm not sure its for everyone has the plot can get for complicated and confusing and there are hundreds of characters(maybe thousands but I haven't read the other books yet). Once you get past the first book which was a little hard to get into at first cause you're just thrust into the world without any preamble and not a lot if any explaining how things work but once you start to get its a pretty good book. The next book was amazing imo. Won't go into many details but there is like 4 to 5 storylines going on and I really like how they interacted and connected. And so far this one is shaping up to be just as good as the second.
Playing Final Fantasy XII. Never got to play it when it first came out and I've had for a while now but never really started it. So far I'm liking it and not liking it at the same time. I'm not really sure what I think of the story right now. The combat fun, even if the gambit system is making me lazy. Balthier and Fran are some awesome characters though.
Watching Samurai Champloo. Its an anime made by the guy that made Cowboy Bebop. So far I'm really digging it. Also not sure if anyone has ever watched the Hellsing anime but they've been releasing OVA's that follow the Manga and the newest one was pure fucking win.
Here's a pic of Roland from the Dark Tower series which I still need to fucking finish btw.
i think i got about half way through. usually i have no issues making headway and getting through books i'm unsure of but with that one i just coudln't for some reason
A bit late in responding but oh well. The Malazan series and Martin's do have many similarities. Giant cast of well written characters intersecting along myriad of storylines that are leading up to something big. Brutal realism and not afraid to kill off characters. But Martin who doens't use much in the form of the supernatural or "magic" While malazan is much more like the Forgotten Realms with many gods and goddesses and demons and other magic shit. Erikson's style is a little weird at first and may put you off at first but either his style is getting better or i'm just getting used to it but i'm liking the series more and more with each book. So far i would highly recommend it.
Sounds interesting, obviously enjoy SOIAF, and forgotten realms series were the first books that I started seriously reading. Salvatore is one of my all time favorite authors.
i have one of the naruto games as well as halo 3. a game i suggest getting is army of two 40th day because it almost forces you to use teamwork which games almost never use now-a-days
Oh I've read the books I was just wondering what you thought of them. I didn't really think they where that dark but then again i just remembered the part in the first book where the one dude is forcefed his nuts so I guess they kinda are. The first few books are good though after a while idk. I won't go into any details but lets just say the series doesn't rank that high for me. Might talk about that later after you've finished the series. Don't want to taint your view or anything.
Ah, well my mistake then. I know what you mean though. The one im reading right now is getting annoying because goodkind keeps repeating the same things every other chapter. Ive read the prophecy about the plauge or kahlan betraying richard so many times that I can nearly quote it from memory. Anyways, im just basing my ranking off the first four books, it could change as I keep reading.
1) At least Sanderson writes fast. I swear if A Dance with Dragons doesn't come out soon I'm going to have to choke a bitch.
2) Also what do you think of the Goodkind books?
1) Indeed! Although, a part of me thinks the wait is worth it considering how bloody epic Martins books have been so far.
2) Well....I have only just started on the fifth one recently, so I cant say about the entire series, but I highly recommend the first four. Great story and great characters, if I had to rank it, I would put the sword of truth as a close third behind martin and then jordan.
The only thing I would warn you of is goodkind dosent know the definition of restraint when it comes to details, unless he does it on purpose. The SoT universe is on the far, far dark end of the medieval fantasy genre where an army breaks down the gate, kills the men and rapes all the women, and goodkind gives you every single little detail. Im not saying that its always like that, in fact, the really dark scenes are few a far between. So if you have a weak stomach I would avoid the books.
