Did you have the woman help you in the robot bay and the medic help you in the cryo lab? I'm not sure if it will help much, but it could. They way I did it was just explore every corner of the place until I found the stuff. Also, be sure to search the first body you find in the Robot Bay to get a device that controls the robots.
You always seem to comment right as I get online. There's a big pit where random stuff (like those cow things) is being droped. The safe is near that thing in one of the junk piles. I think it's buried so only the door is showing.
Grab all the gems. The have no weight, and are worth a good bit. Also, explore the side rooms in the first hub. Don't just go streight to the missions. There's one filled with a lot of human junk, but a lot of rare weapons, too. If you have a 100 Science skill, you can hack a computer to unlock a safe with a prototype plasma pistol that rocks. The safe is hidden far away near a disposal pit. There are also several other side rooms with cool stuff. Last, do not pick up the alien pistols. Only the rifles. Use a high repair to consolidate them. You can also repair all your weapons to full with the black chick, but it costs caps. However, she's the only person in the game capable of repairing anything to 100%.
Don't worry. It's a great weapon, but its ammo is so rare that you never want to use it. I just traded it to the outcasts at Ft. independance for a bunch of Stimpacks. If you take power armor (Except outcast armor), energy weapons, and some other stuff over there, they will trade it for Stimpacks, Rad Away, .556 ammo, or frag grenades. You usually get a pretty good price for the stuff, and they have an infinite amount.
Yeah, you do get it at the crashed ship. However, if you have Mothership Zeta, you can't get it until you beat the mission, which is about 3 hours. There is also one in the very last part of broken steel, after you have gotten to the Airr Force Base. It's in an armory in the crawler (you will know what that is when you get to it). Make sure you have a good science skill for that mission. You have to get through force fields, and if you don't, you take a good bit of damage.
I've beaten the game about 5 times over and been just about everywhere. If you need anything else, just let me know.
Oh, one last thing, never sell Nuka-Cola Quantum. You can trade 30 to some bitch in Girdershade for the plans to the best grenade in the game. You do need the Quantum for those, too. If you've already sold some, save all the regular bottles you can find. You get a perk later where you can turn 10 regulars to a quantum.
