And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely[d] known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
See, that's weird because we have 40 24" LCD screens from 2 manufacturers at work and none of them have the problem from either angle. I don't get it.
Edit: Oh, and my 20" Apple display doesn't have it either but I know the new 20" display I'm going to buy will have it and I'm pretty sure the 20" DVI screen I'm gonna get to sit next to it won't.
It's weird because as much as I love the site, I can see me fading away from it when I get a real job and everything...it's so hard to keep up with stuff as is.
re: iLife/Garageband: We bought iLife06 only to find out today that I can get all of the software from work on the software share because it CAME with the software to begin with so the license transfers ownership to me. Sweet. Adobe CS2 is coming home tomorrow along with a copy of the tiger disc. :)
re: burner: My 12x lite-on i had in my old system auto detected as a SuperDrive. Sweet!
re: iMovieHD/iDVD: I bought an iMovie6/iDVD book from O'Reilly. As per usual with the O'Reilly books, it's awesome.
re: Slow internet via FF: I'm just attributing it to me beating the crap out of this machine. Though with the dual RISC procs it shouldn't be that bad.
re: MenuMeter: I found the website and added it. :)
re: burning ISO images: I have a copy of toast on here. It's toast lite. It works really well and I'm happy with it. :) Is this something that I would normally have to buy?
Second, updates!
I may get my hands on a "no longer licensed" copy of final cut pro at work. Of course my system can't handle all of it but it should be ok on some parts. I have to ask on that one tho. Maybe I should look at the Final Cut Pro 4 copy we have at work. We purged our whole mac stock when we got rid of the creative dept. If we get some dual G5's in I'm going to do everything in my power to get one of those. :D I'm planning on ordering a replacement drive for my Vista machine (200GB SATA) because they're cheap and if I do that I'll take my 80GB and 200GB in that machine and do the following here:
Macintosh System Drive: 2x80GB Raid 1 Storage: 200GB + 120GB = 320GB.
That should work well. If I shouldn't worry too much about the main drive I'll just put it in the 3rd drive into the "storage" section.
Yeah - I'm seriously leaning toward making this my primary machine.
I may get another keyboard tho. This one is sticky and gross. Like when you get a greasy keyboard and wash it with windex. Eew.
Thank you! I really do appreciate your help!
(Do you know how I can move my default "movies" directory to another drive?)
1) How can I monitor system performance? Task manager style (other than opening a console and running "top") - I'd like to have realtime graphs and the ability to see what's doing what if I could. :) 2) I burn a lot of ISO images (DVD/CD) - what's a good burn tool for iso images?
