I'm not big on gaming. Games waste so much time away, and at the end of the day all you have are sore eyes and empty pizza boxes.

Anyway I like music. I like funny stuff. I like money. I like the beach.

I don't like potato, know-it-alls, fakers, bullies, people who beat up on wannabes (wannabes just wanna be good at something. Let them learn), people who wear ug boots outside their house, people who can't get over a grudge without seeking massive revenge, weapons (in real life), self righteous dicks, and other stuff.

If you wanna talk to me feel free. I like friends. And presents :)

First Blood

My 9 year old sister got her 1st blood whilst skating today. Nice cut on her shoulder. She didn't even cry :). She's fallen before. The first few times she's skated she fell and cried at the little things. Now she's a bit more aggressive and uses the aggression to look past the pain and laugh at the fall. Today's fall was the ultimate test I guess. I've told her before: tears equals home or hospital. If it's bad enough to cry about then obviously you need to go to emergency. If it's not bad and you cry it means you're a wuss and need to go home. So far she's stuck to it :).

I'm glad she's learning. I can't wait til she's carving up the park. She's nuts!!!

Yeah our public education system is crap. I was playing Apples to Apples with some of my boyfriend's sister's friend who just graduated and they didn't get most of the game because they didn't know the people they referenced or some of the more uncommon adjectives. It was actually a really sad experience for me. I'm not a genius by any means so I was sad to see these girls be so uneducated. Some of it had to do with the times, I know Frank Sinatra and Georgia Okeefe aren't really house hold names but I was shocked they had never even heard of them before.

I education system has centered itself more towards standardized tests which in my opinion is totally wrong. Schools end up focusing too much of the curriculum (spell?) on the kids who struggle and then the smarter kids get bored of the redundancy (spell?)

and Im fairly. Certain That teachers only really need a certificate to teach.. They may need An actual degree but I'm not sure. At the very least their degree doesn't have to be the subject they are teaching. And really teachers are way underpaid. Ronnie's mom is a teacher and since she divorced ronnie's step dad I think she's kind of struggled.

I doubt I'm talented enough to work at those papers :P I should have tried for an internship but I didn't really feel like it. And in general I go with what my gut tells me. It generally knows what makes me happy.

Yeah, you're right.

Politics is just one of those things... I never really thought I'd be into it much but I am these days. It's a bit awkward with the family. Ronnie's dad is a conservative and likes to pick at us about the Dems here.

Believe me Australia is definitely on the list of countries we'd consider moving to. Never know what will actually happen but as you said we'll probably end up ok. I wish newspapers weren't dying out here. My original intention in college was to learn page design. Fat lot of good it'll do me now... maybe they'll make a comeback.. or maybe I was right to start focusing on web design....

Can't we just go back to being kids? I realize now that everything people said to me then was true. I guess everyone feels the same though. Once we realize how complicated life really is.

Ok I read what CAB has been saying.. some of it anyway. And I guess I'm just a socialist at heart.

Being rich doesn't make you a prick.. Being a rich AND NOT SPENDING YOUR MONEY AND HORDING IT makes you a prick. And that is what I think a lof of the mega rich have been doing. Yes they hire people but they aren't hiring enough people over here and they aren't PAYING a living wage.

Giving money from the mega rich to the mega poor is not redistributing the poverty considering something like 2% of the population here has 90% of the wealth.

Megacorperations are NOT hiring people here and that is the biggest of our problems.. thanks to NAFTA, all the mega corperations are sending jobs over to other countries and paying way less than they would have to if they had jobs over here.

The obvious thing to me is that the mega rich have become too corrupt with their own greed to see that they caused a lot of the problems my country is going though. There will be no public option in the health care reform and I'm so heart broken over it.

Like I've said before, I know socialism has it's own set of problems.. but right now I think I'd rather being in Austrailia than in America. Obama is the only thing that makes me even want to stay in the country and even he isn't able to do a whole lot.

Ronnie works full time 40 + hours a week he has student loans and a credit card he has to pay every month plus rent and utilities. I work Part time and I pay for my cell phone, car, and groceries and I'll be honest he makes 12 dollars and hour and I make 10 and we are still just making it month to month. My car is in need of serious maintenence but we can't afford it so any day really my car could crap out and then we'd just lose our jobs... and you know what?

The mega corperations wouldn't care.. they don't care that they don't pay people enough, they don't care that they've sent all the jobs over seas, they don't care that people are dying because they can't get medical coverage.. all they care about is there 30-bed 20-bath single family houses THEY DON"T EVEN LIVE IN and their quarterly bonuses.

I realize that we are all free to earn our own living and we all have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness but what happiness is there to pursue when the hardest workers in the country are the poor, and they are barely making enough money to get by?

I know there are lazy poor people, but most of the poor people I've known in my life were hard workers, they go home dirty and sweaty and tired and all they can even hope for in life is that they have enough money to pay the rent at the end of the month.

so forgive me CAB if I believe that Socialism isn't such a bad thing for this country.

We're one of the only first world countries without universal health care for crying out loud! To me that says we are OBVIOUSLY missing something that the rest of the world has already caught up on!

and the government in this country is designed in such a way that even if we did go socialist a little, we wouldn't have a dictator, the law making process will not have changed in any way. The government in this county would never have the power enough to do the terrible things the idiots in this country think will happen if we have Universal health care.

I know no system is perfect but damnit ours is currently terrible.

I'm fairly certain that I've taken this all too personally and I've misunderstood what all he's been saying but I just disagree with him on pretty much everything I've read.

I'd take Austrailia over the US right now anyday.. and I hate saying that because there was a time in my life when I thought America was wonderful and the best country in the world. But when my dad lost his business because sales dropped when NAFTA started something about the country just didn't seem so awesome anymore.

my post overflowed, but i HAD to address this

In reply to Project89, #4:
I would rather be middle class than a rich upper class prick with no friends. I think our different cultures have given us different values. I am finding I am much better off here in Australia than I would be in America. If I get sick I get free (or very cheap) treatment. If I pay a little extra for health insurance I get it even cheaper and quicker. Money isn't everything. As long as I still have my family and friends I consider myself rich. I would determine my success by how many people turned up at my funeral. I determine stability in how my friends, family and government help me out when things are tough. I got through high school and the year after on government money on top of the money I earned at Maccas. I value friendship and loyalty over cash. I think for that reason we are not going to agree on much politically. I think I'll keep my head down in the Political forums from now on

So, lets see if I understand what you're saying. You're assuming just because someone is "upper class" that they are a "prick" who has no friends. you just generalized a whole group of people based on a popular stereotype, which is one that those oh so upper class politicians like to hypocritically preach while they steal your money.

I don't understand why everyone who has more money than most is a bad person, or why people feel guilt about it. I'm by no means anywhere near rich, but i won't fault a rich person for being rich.

if they are a prick and have no friends, that's a separate issue. Its faulty to assume that money= bad character.

Also, look at it this way, why would you want less wealthy people? The more wealthy people are, the more money there is to collect and help people, the more people are willing the spend outside of their own needs, the more they can afford to help others. To say that everyone should be the same (middle class) is madness in my eyes, since you're keeping everyone down. I don't know about your middle class, but even our country's definition of "low upper class" barely makes enough money to afford to live when taxes come in. ( "Low upper class" I'm not sure is even entirely accurate because i've seen "low upper class". its not much greater than the average house here in New Jersey. an extra bedroom and maybe a slightly fancier car is about it, otherwise they are no better off).

Really, all you do when you take from the upper and middle class and give to the poor is shift the poverty around. You're holding back people who were becoming wealthy to keep the impoverished just barely going. Don't get me wrong, i have a heart and i donate all the time, but all this obsession with money and class isn't really making a difference in the lived of the poor anyway.

Do you think celebrities get their money because they cheat it out of the poor? In reality, they get it because you shovel it at them. hell, the guy who sells peanuts at a ball game is a millionaire, because he can sell $1 peanut bags and $5 hot dogs to millions of people and you'll buy it. He isn't some executive, he is a food service guy.

Its much the same with many other large corporations. You spend the money on their computers, foods, cars, whatever, and that's why they get rich. Not that there isn't corruption there either, but they get the money because lots of people will buy what they sell, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that.

besides, its these mega corporations that actually hire people and create jobs and keep the economy flowing in the first place. shooting down the wealthy only serves to sink everything else that keeps the world going.

I don't see what Australia does as being radical, that's just what people have said to me. I only just realised our right most party is actually still left wing. I have worked in the community welfare industry (Youth Work degree) and I see how some people's sacrificing helps give teens with seemingly no future a chance at breaking out of the cycle. I've seen it work. Not all the time but it was still worth it for the few who make it in life.

In the United states, such programs are rampant. I mean, On one hand, its good to have a group to help people who are down in their luck, but at the same time, the democratic party government here tends to make a new Fully staffed committee/organization for every single possible denomination of people. For example there is a state aid organization specifically geared to latin women. I don't understand why they can't just lump State aid into ONE group and have specialists within the group. You don't need loads of management for each and every category. Whats more, these frequently end up filled with corrupt officials siphoning more money out of the budget. People wonder why no one has any money anymore.

I have no problem with giving aid, but its not surprising when intelligent Americans are uncooperative with legislation that intends to add to that system. Its incredibly wasteful. On top of that, many people question how effective throwing money at poverty really is (a classic democrat move here). You may have had some success stories, but the hundreds of millions of taxpayer money here have not done much to really change the lives of the majority of the poor in my region. I see it all the time, and no matter how many times they announce some new way to help, it just becomes another money pit that fails to accomplish anything real.
I'm talking about free education from age 5. You can't. Expect the world to run if the population can't read or write. I wouldn't mind free university either, although I think the UK has the best model for uni loans.

We have that here. I went to preschool and the whole 9 yards in the public system. I don't expect the world to run if everyone was uneducated, but this is the problem in the United States. The reason we've fallen down the Smart Charts is because our public schools are SHIT. Free education is completely useless if its not doing the job (which is why a private education is superior in this country, since failure is not a financial option). There is no incentive to actually teach. Usually, schools focus on just trying to get kids to pass Standardized tests, and when they don't, they just give them increasingly easier standardized tests until they pass (of course, they didn't really learn what they were supposed to, so they grow up to be the kind of uneducated that "free education" was trying to prevent). This is of course, once again, perpetrated by corrupt administrators who want more government money (better schools get additional government funds). These additional funds pretty much go straight into their wallets and never reach the school.

the other major issue is that teacher's unions make it nearly impossible to fire a teacher. Teachers unions protect EVERYONE, even the totally incompetent. You would have to be such a miserable teacher that nothing good could be said for you (and they'd still try to keep you in). There are terrible teachers teaching things they didn't even go to school for, but they are protected. As a result, shitty teachers are not held accountable for their failures, and other teachers are not driven to perform well since they aren't going to loose their job if they suck. I've seen and experienced it, and its widespread.

The Education unions, ESPECIALLY in NJ are some of the most politically powerful groups and they are half the reason New Jersey has the highest taxes anywhere in the nation. In fact, there is a whole documentary about New Jersey schools called "The Cartel", which would give you a good idea EXACTLY why America as a whole has a shitty education system. Try and take a look if you can find it.
Maybe the reason Obama can't get anything done is because his race prevents some people from supporting him. Just a thought.

I should hope not. Either way, what people say or who they support are totally irrelevant in this country. Its our congress that is supposed to represent us when it comes to getting things done (which i think they rarely do). Their representation goes as far as convincing us to vote for them every couple years. after that, they do their own thing, however THEY think the country should be run. they don't give a shit about the average person (other than votes). I will say that we have quite a few known former KKK members in our congress, so you might be slightly right. I still think its general party opposition though, not race.

However, even the things where Obama has succeeded in getting out there, like stimulus packages and bailouts are fairly controversial, and things did not really seem to improve. Most of the money handed out went right into the sink holes that sucked the money from the economy in the first place. It really doesn't matter how much stimulus money he gave out, he didn't fix the issues that got us in trouble in the first place.

It could also be said that capitalism might actually work when the left doesn't try to turn it socialist. When you really look at it, its improper or lack of regulation that causes issues with the system. People may take advantage of the system, but then again, there is no system immune to people taking advantage of it and screwing others over. the systems have their advantages, but you have to run them one way or the other. trying to mix them up results in the gears not meshing.
