Ugh, I think it won't matter how much I really want to. I'll never be as much of a gamer as I was five/six years ago. *sigh* How I miss it so...
Do I think you personally need to see the film in order to enjoy it further. No. Do I think it's a theme park ride wrapped up in a theater based movie? Yes. And if that's your candy, then go for it. It'll be lots of fun. But don't expect an AMAZING film just because it's made so much money.
James Cameron knows how to capture the hearts of simple minded people. IE: Titanic and Avatar.
Are there good themes in his films? Yes. Do they say it better than most? No.
Watch Ferngully and Dances With Wolves and you'll get a much better selection of films along with better writing, acting, and cinematography. Even with Avatar's advanced technology they don't do anything special.

I was wondering if it was just me. I can't seem to watch more than two minutes at a time without cringing.
No, it is not just you. I think the idea had such great potential. I thought that the beginning of the cylons was actually a great idea. I just can't get past everyone's whining.
My oldest brother was quite obsessed with getting the best shots so he talked to a professional photographer about what kind of filters he used.
The photographer said he would be out of business pretty quick if he bought all these commercial filters, so he made his effects other ways. So for soft focusing he did the nylon thing.
A couple of my friends had photography businesses, but I never asked them about filters. Like I said, I mostly prefer to just capture what I see.
It's a beautiful game, isn't it? I'm really glad they decided to go with the cell shading--it wasn't originally supposed to have been. If you haven't already seen it, the original trailer is up on YouTube.
