Sometimes I HATE MarylandAh Maryland! Gateway to the south, convienent shellfish availability and right next to DC.God I fucking hate my home state sometimes. As I was saying some time ago in the Firearms thread, I had decided that I wanted a 12 gauge shotgun and was going to spend some disposable income on a Mossberg Persuader my next day off after payday. I went to this one particular gun store because I was advised that the first place I was going to would be "overpriced" and "lacking the true experience". I knew the exact model I wanted(and could've been persuaded to upgarde to a more expensive model, really) and was just expecting to walk in, buy it and a case for transport/storage, and maybe head right to one of the two available ranges in the general area. The "gnentelmen" at the store told me that I had to subit to a background check(expected) that would take a total of two days(unexpected), that I had to fill out a bunch of forms, leave a deposit, and wait five more days before I could even handle the gun I was interested in. ...TOTAL BULLSHIT! My buddy Ricky The Pyscho, Private Eye and big time gun owner told me none of that shit was necessary. Not even handgun purchases need that much crap, even though Maryland has the stupiest gun laws next to DC. Seriously, there's apparently all theese stories about how retired police officers couldn't get concealed carry permits now that they were civilians, even though when they were on the force they were required to carry their weapons at ALL times. And all handguns made after 96(I think, don't know exactly) have to have buit in hammer/trigger locks or they're illegal. AND you cant transfer a permit from another state, which is a law ONLY maryland has. So i went to the other place(Dick's Sporting Goods) and while they didn't have a huge selection they did have the model I was looking for about $85 dollars less than the other place. We guessed that the other place didn't want my business because they we probably bigots and didn't like my Isreali Defense Forces tshirt(even though I couldn't look more Irish-American if dressed like a leprechaun and carried a sheleileigh(Iknow I spelled that wrong...) while drinking a Guiness and singing "Finnegan's Wake." So at Dick's I decided to get a Mossberg Plinkster 802 semi-auto .22 rimefire with 4x scope included, because I wanted a .22 and it was only $109, and after handling the 9 round Persuader(which they do not sell with the pistol grip kit because they can't really justify it as an accesory suitible for hunting for the Maryland/Montgomery county board of whatever according to the sales person) I decided that I liked the 590 model better. It just felt better made, more solid construction, heat shield installed, bayonet lug for attaching things like a flashlight, and just looked more intimidating. And only $50 more. There was only an instant(that's like, minutes of waiting as opposed to days, those lying pricks)background check and the reccomendation that I buy a rifle case at the same time so no one calls the cops on me. The clerk asked me if the info on my ID was up to date and I almost said yes before I realised that it still had my old address on it. Long story short, I moved in with my sister becasuse nobody wanted to live with her bitch-ass, the apartment costs too damn much, includes nothing and is one communal commuter parking structure away from a busy train track and there's ALLWAYS a fucking loud ass frieght train that comes at 12:10 or so EVERY NIGHT making me turn the tv volume way the hell up. We got along better when she lived in Philly. So, I wasn't sure exactly how long I was going to be living there, because I sure as all hell wasn't going to last the entire year of the lease, so I didn't want to waste a day at the MVA(called DMV everywhere else) just to have to change it again soon. So, I still have no gun. And I can't fucking stand the bitch anymore, so I have to start looking for an appartment or someone looking for a roomate(I'd actually rather move in with someone, it's just cheaper) so all availble funds have to go to that. And I spent most of the alloted gun money on a bunch of TV DVDs. I could've bought a PS3, but decided there wasn't a single game I wanted to play on it yet. Damn I want a shotgun. |
