Digging in to Flickr PicsSo I'm on the interwebs, and I run across a cool picture, and I want to know where it comes from. So I look at the source, and I see it's a Flickr photo. But there doesn't seem to be any easy way to go from the URL to a page that tells me anything about the picture! Here's an example: farm1.static.flickr.com/23/32606683_039 (Grabbed that off of Flickr's front page today.) Well, a little googling later, and I find this page - it explains EXACTLY how to go from that bare image URL to a regular Flickr page! Awesome. The photo id is the first part of the filename, and you tack that onto a special Flickr URL to get back to the regular page. The problem is, I'm not smart enough to remember the special Flickr URL. But wait - if it's a simple matter of pulling a fixed portion of the link out every time, why can't I just automate the procedure? And so Flickr Findr was born. You can't really get a more bare-bones interface - but it works. And I don't have to remember anything (except where my page is). (Click this link to see what it does with the Flickr image above.) I'm posting it here because I figured it might be useful to someone else, too. And if you ever forget where it is, you can now search my Journal for 'Findr'. |
