Ok, so it's an old series but I just recently picked it up again and I was curious as to what every one's thoughts were on the series. Do you like how everything turned out? Even if you were for one side (registration or not), was it interesting to read the other side's stories? Did the series drag on or was it totally worth it to see Captain America and Iron Man duke it out?

I liked it, but I didn't like where it went with later story arcs like World War Hulk and Secret Invasion. Actually I haven't been happy with any of the company-wide story arcs put out by Marvel since then, especially Secret Invasion which to me seemed incredibly pointless like ALL the heroes aboard the Skrull ship in the Savage Land being Skrulls.

I had high hopes for Dark Reign, but it's become a more blatant marketing plot than usual for Marvel e.g. Do you like Deadpool/Dark Avengers but don't care for the mostly C and D-list cast of Thunderbolts/X-Men? Too bad, looks like you gotta buy those tie-in issues since the plot of one book continues in the next. The entire "List" mini-series was like buying a preview to whatever series it was promoting in that issue.

So anyways, I definitely appreciate Civil War a lot more since, to me at least, it seemed more plot driven than the later crossovers that seemed more sales driven.

Theres a Marvel Major events thread, this probably belongs there. I liked civil war, I think it really set up the marvel U for events to come.

Yeah, I can see how you feel that way. I just started reading Dark Reign so I haven't really seen it turn into a marketing whore yet, but I do think it's weird how they'll have two main story arc comics and hundreds of comics scattered throughout no name series.Civil War had a pretty good job of keeping you interested through each and every addition, even if it was a character you didn't particularly care about. The only complete set I owned was the Front Line edition where it would try to remain fairly biased, just following two reporters and their take on the whole thing. I thought it was pretty neat to keep a little eye of objectivity in such a huge battle that most of the fans seemed to pick the same side for. I think it's little things like that that help keep the series from falling to corporate hand outs and really try to keep a good series going.

Yeah, maybe I'm just looking at things through rose colored glasses though. Lone Star Comics must've loved me cause I bought all the Civil War tie-ins, even the stuff I really didn't care about like X-Factor and Heroes For Hire. Now I don't even read the the main books for Dark Reign. I guess what I really liked about Civil War was the direction they sent my two favorite characters, Spider-Man and The Punisher. I thought it opened up a whole new world in the Spidey books with his identity out in the open and I was happy that the Punisher was finally back in the mainstream Marvel U with his own book, but unfortunately we all know what happened to Spidey after that and the Punisher is about to get really stupid if you read last weeks Punisher: The List.

Hey, I didn't realize you were from Arington! I am too, and Lone Star's been pretty good for supplying my comic fix. It's much better than my old comic book store that offered more DC than I cared to read.

I haven't been too involved with the Punisher since they seem to jump back and forth between the awesome street justice Punisher and the 80's explosion-fest version. I might pick up his series after his role in the Civil War though. My personal favorites to follow were Iron Man and Spiderman. Even though I was totally against Registration it was interesting to see their moral dilemma in enforcing the law even if it means capturing their allies. Spiderman was always fun to follow because he kept jumping sides and really kept you from definitely siding registration or not. Also, the series opend my eyes to Captain America and made him a character I actually started caring about. Before CW I just thought Captain America had super patriotism powers and the ability to punch Nazis. There were some other characters I would have like them to flush out a little more but they didn't really play too much of a part in the grand scheme of it all. Wolverine got a few lines here and there and a comic right at the beginning, but after that he kinda drifted out of the whole dilemma.

there is a Marvel thread to discuss all Marvel events, as well as a general comic book discussion thread. there is no reason for an event over 3 years old to have a new thread
