Updates (RACING!)So, updates have been scarce here lately. So, on Christmas Day I injured my leg/hip while learning to ski, and have been more or less laid up by it since. Well, after a few go-arounds with doctors I was given word that I just have a bad muscle injury and that it should be fine in the long run. This has cleared up concerns I had about my racing activities. I did have reservations about making plans for big racing trips since I didn't want to show up with a serious medical consideration (not being able to run is not something to be taken lightly on the track) and kind of put many things on hold until I knew better. Now I know better, so I'm scrambling getting some things together for this year. First, Montreal. I waited very VERY late to get things lined up for Montreal and I was worried about finding accommodations. Thankfully, McGill University rents out dorm rooms during the summer, but they aren't listed as a hotel so they don't show up on any searches, so only those of us who are in-the-know get rooms there. They tend to have availability. They also have a new residence hall that used to be a hotel, so it effectively has hotel-grade rooms at a reasonable cost with parking available. It is still pricey - roughly $200 Canadian a night. Well, there is another marshal that expressed interest in going up with me, so if that is a go we can split the cost. Second, Petit Le Mans. I am very upset about missing Sebring this year, so I intend to more than make up for it at Petit this year. There should be a good contingent of Sebring Turn 10 and Drinking For Holland folks this year again, so I'll be in good company. I found a hotel a bit North of the track that is very cheap, and there's a Dunkin just off the route between it and the track (seriously, there is an epic shortage of Dunkins in the South). Methinks that will be my temp home. Third, there shall be a smattering of Lime Rock stops, including the Grand-Am and ALMS events. I'm going to start populating my calendar with the club dates since I want to upgrade to a National license next year and need as many of those as I can get. I might also make a covert trip to NH (and avoiding the ex who lives 10 minutes from the track). There is also a possibility of a trip back to Watkins Glen to act as assistant Flag Chief for a SCCA club event. I'm aiming to have a good racing season, with the goal of getting Nationally licensed to go do more international things next year. We shall see. |
