John GossageAbout back in May of 2009, we had a photographer come to our school. His name was John Gossage and he's a very well known photographer and he was doing a project on Rochester as a city. He had asked our teachers to select a couple students for him to photograph. One of my teachers selected me.And now it's months later and I found out on monday from a message my teacher left on my voicemail that he was having a photo exhibit at the Rochester Art Center and my picture was going to be in it. And that he was going to give me a print of the photograph that's apparently worth $6,000. And that it was going to be in the local newspaper. AGH! So we got the newspaper on wednesday and there was a special section labeled HERE with all the photos and after the title page the first picture was the one of me. All the pictures in it were full page prints so the one of me is huge. And at school I got a couple of tickets from my art teacher to see the exhibit. So tonight at 8 my cousin, my mom, and me all went to the opening and John was there, along with the art curator who came up to me right after we walked in and he shook my hand and he was really excited to see me. He was like "There he is! The star of the show." And he was saying how John really enjoyed taking pictures of me and all this crazyness. I got all sweaty and I started to stutter. I was so flustered. The whole time I was at the exhibit, which was packed, I had a bunch of people whispering and smiling at me. A couple coming up to me and asking, is that you? Are you one of the subjects? It was really surreal. And towards the end John finally was by himself and he came up with the prints in his hand and he signed and dated the back of the print and handed it to me. And he said to me that "you probably already know from the newspaper, you were the guiding spirit of the show." It's the best compliment I've ever been given. It was an amazing show and it'll be there for a couple weeks. Here's the picture he took:
